Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and actor Farhan Akhtar’s request for exemption of entertainment tax, on the sale of tickets, has been accepted by the Maharashtra government. The film, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is a biopic on legendary athlete Milkha Singh.

“It was very important and I am glad that the government has accepted our request so quickly. We had met with Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat a couple of days ago and requested to speed up the procedure. Hopefully, very soon, we will get an approval from Delhi also,” says Mehra.

The director mentions that the tax exemption will help the film reach a wider audience. “Normally, many families wait for a good film to come on cable television and other platforms. But, now with the tax exemption, the ticket prices will fall and more people will come to theatres to watch the film,” adds the director.
