Kareena Kapoor may be shooting for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine in Thailand at the moment, but she’s already excited about working in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela. The two of them had wanted to do a movie together way back in 1999, right after Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (HDDCS), but eventually that did not work out.

Now, an evidently thrilled Kareena has honoured Bhansali by calling him “the truest successor to Raj Kapoor’s legacy”. She says, “I wish my grandfather, Raj Kapoor, was alive. Though I have never worked with him, I am now working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali whose films take his legacy forward in a true sense.”

About their upcoming film, a source tells us, “The film is an Indian adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. It will be filmed mostly in Gujarat, and will have the kind of grandeur seen in HDDCS, which was also shot there.” Kareena will star opposite Ranveer Singh in the film.

The source adds, “There will be 11 songs, just like HDDCS had.” Kareena is to start shooting for the film as soon as she completes Heroine.

Bhansali says, “Kareena and I have wanted to work together for a long time, since HDDCS. We are both happy and looking forward to begin shooting soon.”

As her 13-year wait to work with Bhansali is finally over, the Agent Vinod actor says, “I’ve been looking to work with a filmmaker like Bhansali for a long time.”
