Despite a significant dip in their TV ratings, reality show Bigg Boss and comedy show The Kapil Sharma Show have featured in the Google’s list of top 10 most searched TV shows in 2017. The search engine brings out its ‘Year in Search’ report every year that gives a glimpse of the news, events and trends that dominated the discourse.
Netflix’s Stranger Things topped the list, followed by the controversial Netflix sitcom, 13 Reasons Why. Popular TV show Game of Thrones ranked on the fourth slot while Bigg Boss bagged the sixth spot on the list. The Kapil Sharma Show ranked on the ninth spot.
Kapil’s show, a TRP spinner, took a downward spin after his infamous fight with co-star Sunil Grover in April. Things went southwards after many of his show’s shoots were cancelled as the host never showed up. The Kapil Sharma Show eventually was pulled off air. Kapil also went to a rehabilitation centre to reportedly cure his alcohol problem. It was only days before the release of Kapil’s latest film Firangi that Sony announced his show will be back on the channel soon.Perhaps the dynamic changes in Kapil’s career kept everyone interested in the show.
Bigg Boss, on the other hand, has registered low ratings in weekly surveys done by Broadcasting Audience Research Council of India (BARC) this year. While it started with 4.9 million impressions, it has got between 4.2 to 4.8 million impressions in weeks thereafter.
The top 10 list also included Big Brother Brasil, Iron Fist, Riverdale, American Gods and Mindhunter.
