Deepika can’t sue me: Ekta Kapoor

Brushing off real Ragini’s legal threats, Ekta Kapoor says film not entirely based on her life. Ekta is all geared up for black carpet premiere of her paranormal thriller.

Ekta Kapoor’s Ragini MMS will open with a morning show in one theatre on May 12 following her astrologers’ advice. But the real unveiling will be at a midnight premiere on Friday the 13th. “We will have a black carpet, with me arriving in an autorickshaw adorned with the film’s stickers. There will be sorcerers, tarot card readers, Bollywood stars and of course, Ragini,” promises Ekta.

Will the real Ragini, Deepika, also be there? Ekta’s not sure, following her face-off with her muse who is threatening legal action if she’s not shown the film before the release. The filmmaker insists that the 22-year-old Delhi girl, whose MMS scandal has in part inspired her latest movie, panicked after reading an interview of hers in which she’d said that she’d reveal the identity of the real Ragini on May 5.

“It shouldn’t have come as a surprise because I’d made this clear to her six months ago. But now both she and her mother are afraid that the sex scenes in the film will come to be associated with her. Deepika can’t sue me because I’ve never said that Ragini MMS is completely based on her life. I’ve only said that it’s based on a true incident around which we’ve fabricated a film, “reasons Ekta, optimistic that the breach will be resolved once Deepika and she sit together.

Ekta’s always been firm on a May 13 release but it’s set her on a collision course with brother Tusshar’s Love U…Mr Kalakaar! that also opens on Friday. “There’s space for both movies,” she insists. “Families will go to see my gorgeous brother’s sweet love story while youngsters looking for a scary date movie will flock to Ragini MMS. I’m going to see both, I hope others will too.”
