Demonetisation won’t affect box office collections: Kunal Kapoor

Actor Kunal Kapoor feels that even though a certain section of people won’t be able to watch his film Dear Zindagi, others living in cities will come and watch anyway.

Though the demonetisation has left several producers and filmmakers worried, actor Kunal Kapoor feels that the collections of his film Dear Zindagi, won’t be affected.

Actor Kunal Kapoor says that the film caters to a certain audience who will come and watch it anyway.

“You have to understand there are people who’ve also been waiting for a film that they want to watch. And this is a film which doesn’t have this humongous release,” says the 39-year-old actor adding, “Maybe a certain section of the audience won’t turn up at the theatres because their concern will be to save money. But by and large people who’ll watch the film, especially in multiplexes and bigger cities, would either book online or have money on their credit cards. So really I don’t think it’s going affect our film at all.”

The fact that Gauri Shinde’s directorial has been promoted as a one-of-its-kind film, Kapoor also feels that marketing makes a lot of difference. “The film has not even been marketed as a film for the masses. The makers have put out the teasers and all information, which is very relevant to the film and true to its story. It caters to a certain audience, and that set is going to come out and watch it anyway,” he adds.

Stating that the movie has been received very well in US and Canada, where it was released two days prior to its scheduled date in India, Kapoor is hopeful that there won’t be any problem on the business front.

However, talking from an industry point of view, Kapoor maintains, “Whatever is good for the country is good for the (film) industry. I’d still say we need to wait and see how it’s affecting the industry and whether at all box office collections are being hampered.”
