Dhadak actor Shridhar Watsar: Theatre fulfilled my dream of becoming an actor, it’ll always be my first love

Dhadak actor Shridhar Watsar shares that theatre helped him learn the art of acting and also paved the way for films and TV shows.

Having started his career with theatre, actor Shridhar Watsar shares that his association with stage is and will always remain special. Seen in the recent film, Dhadak, he adds that no matter how big he makes it in other mediums, he will remain loyal to theatre.

“My first play was Jalsa Karo Jayantilal with Dilip Joshi, and it was staged in 2001. Working with someone like him, I learnt a lot. He’d tell me that while playing a character, I should keep in mind the importance of the plot. He asked me to learn from real life and apply it on stage. Later, I also worked with (actor) Paresh Rawal. His dedication, timing, and dialogue delivery inspired me,” says Shridhar, adding that he continued to do theatre for almost 12 years before TV and films happened.

The actor, who has been part of films such as Michael (2011) and OMG: Oh My God (2012), says that it was because of his theatre background that doors opened for him on other mediums. “I was busy doing theatre and never tried for films or TV. I have worked with Umesh Shukla (director of OMG: Oh My God), and he liked my work, he offered me to be a part of the film. Later, I was offered Michael. As I always say, the best thing about these films was good stories and none exaggerated anything about my height,” says Shridhar.

“Theatre fulfilled my dream of becoming an actor. I will always be thankful to stage and whatever happens I will stay loyal to theatre,” he signs off.
