Dibakar to tie up with NFDC for film

Dibakar Banerjee, who recently announced his political thriller Shanghai, is already planning his next two films. “Even while making Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD), I was planning ahead. I haven’t decided which one I will make next though,” he says, confirming that one of the movies will be based in Kolkata.

The director is also keen on collaborating with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). “For my sake, I hope it happens by next year. I have tremendous respect for NFDC. They have produced some of our landmark films. I think that will be the next level of Indian films reaching out internationally,” he says.

Well adapted
Shanghai, a contemporary adaptation of the 1960’s Greek book titled Z, is being produced by PVR Pictures. “We’ve been planning this for eight months now. Chairman Ajay Bijli is really excited about the concept. I like the fact that PVR is more interested in my film than in me,” laughs Banerjee.

The association with PVR has led to rumours of a rift between Banerjee and LSD’s producer Ekta Kapoor. The director quashes speculation on the subject.

With Shanghai scheduled to go on the floors in March 2011, Banerjee is devoting time to ad films, which he has been making for over a decade. “In November, I will completely shift my focus to Shanghai. Till then, I will continue challenging myself with ad films. Switching tracks in this manner has helped me polish my skills,” he says.
