Speculation is rife about an apparent standoff between Yash and Aditya Chopra that could soon lead to the son launching his own production house and the father returning to direct a film for YRF after seven years. This film was supposed to bring back the Veer-Zaara pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta.

No go
Rafiq Gangjee, YRF’s spokesperson, denies any differences between the Chopras or a deal with Zaara: “Preity Zinta is not slated to be in Yash Chopra’s next directorial venture. We are in the process of finalising the scripts of our forthcoming films. We’ll announce the details in January.” May be not with Yash Chopra but Zinta promises to return to commercial Hindi cinema next year with an “ultra glam role”.

The actor took an 18-month sabbatical to focus on cricket, during which she turned down films like Jab We Met and Robot, and only popped up in a friendly appearance in buddy Salman Khan’s Main Aurr Mrs Khanna.

Today, the future of her IPL team, Kings XI Punjab, is uncertain following BCCI’s decision to expel it from the League for financial irregularities. The franchise owner, after one “shocked” Twitter post, has refused to comment on the issue.

All she’s willing to say is that it’s time to get back to the movies but no more rona-dhona, no make-up roles. She’s had her fill of those with Last Lear (2007), Heaven On Earth (2008) and Heroes (2008).

“Now you’ll see me in an ultra-glam avatar,” she promises. “My fans on Twitter have been constantly asking me when I’ll be back on screen. And recently, at Ramesh Taurani’s nephew’s wedding, even industry folks who have known me since my first film, Kya Kehna, were asking me the same question. It made me feel so wanted. I came here, a rank outsider, with absolutely nothing. But somewhere along the way, these people have become a part of my family.”

Special award
Zinta, who has a Master’s degree in criminal psychology, recently received an honorary doctorate from the University of East London (UEL). “I’ve won awards for films but this is the first time I’ve received an award for my cultural contribution or my humanitarian work. It will always be extremely special for me,” beams the actress, who is looking slim and sexy.
