Esha Gupta approached for a biopic on Lakshmi Sahgal

Be it Vidya Balan’s bold and beautiful act as the late south sensation, Silk Smitha, in The Dirty Picture (2011), or Priyanka Chopra’s memorable performance as the Indian boxer Mary Kom in the film of the same name — female actors have pulled off biopics with the utmost ease in Bollywood. Esha Gupta might just get added to this list, as we have heard that the actor has recently been approached to play the lead role in a biopic on the famed Indian National Army officer, late Lakshmi Sahgal.

Also known as Captain Lakshmi, Lakshmi was a revolutionary during the Indian Independence struggle. A source close to Esha reveals that a production house has approached the actor for the film. “A leading production house recently approached Esha with the idea of Lakshmi Sahgal’s biopic. The makers are keen to get Esha on board, as they feel she is apt for the role. They are also considering the fact that she hails from an army background,” says the source.

The insider adds that Esha hasn’t accepted the offer yet. “The whole process is in the initial stages, and the production house is still in talks with her. She is currently busy with her upcoming film, and will wrap up its shoot before August and then decide.”
