Three different film festivals, spread across three different genres, will enthrall Delhi’s movie lovers till December first week. While one of the festivals focuses on environmental issues, the others aim to entertain and advocate the use of literature.
A festival currently running in Delhi is Spoofh Mania, which is India’s first film festival that marks spoof as a distinct genre. An international film festival, it aims at celebrating creativity in humour and entertainment though spoof cinema. Today, the festival will screen the Indian movie — Supermen of Malegaon, a film directed by Faiza Khan, along with other movies. “It is a documentary film where Superman is dealing with local issues. The movie has been adapted locally, so that the local audience can connect with it,” says Faiza. Apart from this film, the fest will also host the Stand up for Spoof evening, featuring the best of stand up comedians from Delhi.
If you are a fan of regional cinema, head to the Regional Film Festival at Siri Fort Auditorium. The festival, which starts on November 26, will screen some popular Bengali movies such as Apur Sansar, Dahan and Chokh, directed by renowned filmmakers such as Satyajit Ray, Rituparno Ghosh and Utpalendu Chakraborty. “People from every region could benefit by witnessing the selected movies from their own soil, and that has been the prime motive behind this festival,” says JP Singh, assistant secretary, Sahitya Kala Parishad.
Another unique film festival to visit is Quotes from the Earth. A two day environmental film festival, it has been organised by Toxics Link, a Delhi-based NGO. Starting on December 6, it will showcase 25 films from Indian and international filmmakers. The films, which will be screened at this festival, deal with contemporary and current environmental issues such as man-animal conflicts, river contamination, forest conservation and more. “The festival aims to create awareness on various social issues. The films throw light on four categories of environmental concerns,” says Ravi Agarwal, director, Toxics Link.
