Fukrey Returns earns Rs 32.20 crore in three days as comedy continues its hold on box office
After a remarkable opening of Rs 8.10 crore on Friday, the box office collections of Fukrey Returns only saw an upward swing at the ticket windows over the first weekend.
Despite critics panning the film, Richa Chadha’s Fukrey Returns continued its positive run at the box office on Sunday, earning Rs 32.20 crore over the first weekend. After a remarkable opening of Rs 8.10 crore on Friday, the sequel to 2013 film Fukrey managed to bring people to theatres over the weekend.
Richa Chadha is back as Bholi Punjaban in Fukrey Returns. The film has earned Rs 32.2 crore in the first weekend.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures, “And #FukreyReturns has a REMARKABLE opening weekend... Crosses ₹ 30 cr mark... Expected to cross *lifetime biz* of #Fukrey [₹ 36.50 cr] on Day 4 [Mon], as per current trending... Fri 8.10 cr, Sat 11.30 cr, Sun 12.80 cr. Total: ₹ 32.20 cr. India biz.
The collections show that audience is going for comedy as the year drwas to a close. After Judwaa 2 and Golmaal Returns, Fukrey 2 is one of the few films that has managed to post a profit. This despite the fact that most reviewers panned Fukrey Returns, another attribute it shares with the above films. Fukrey’s sequel also gained from the fact that it has been a lean phase with Padmavati being postponed after protests.
Fukrey Returns opened in India on Friday and features Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Varun Sharma, Priya Anand, Richa Chadha, Vishakha Singh and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles. Directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, Fukrey Returns has been co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sindhwani under their banner Excel Entertainment.
