PLOT:
Sanjay (Emraan Hashmi) and his two partners (Pandit amnd Idris) plan a massive heist. Sanjay is made in-charge of keeping the cash till it's safe to split. By the time his partners return to claim their share, Sanjay has had a severe bout of, what they suspect, convenient amnesia. Suspecting a scam, they decide to stay back with him and his crazy Punjabi wife (Vidya Balan).

Critics feel that Rajkumar Gupta has failed to exploit the full potential of the plot. writes for Mint, "It helps to keep expectations low while watching Ghanchakkar, which isn't as mad-cap as the title promises." Film analyst writes, "With a plot that had the potential to transform into an engaging and outrageous entertainer, Ghanchakkar gets repetitive and tedious." , NDTV, couldn't agree more, "The fundamental concept of Ghanchakkar is intriguing all right, but it simply isn't sturdy enough to bear the weight of an entire two hour-plus film."

(Zee TV) finds the film different but believes that the audience will not accept it: "The genre, style and presentation are indeed the first of its kinds but at the same time, something that the audiences will find very difficult to digest."

Film critic (DNA) finds the opening just right but the plot and characters are not well-developed, he adds. "While the premise is interesting, Gupta could have spent more time doctoring the screenplay. The second half springs up many loopholes that are glaring in your face with discrepancies. Sanju and Neetu's chemistry, especially their banter in the early first half seems forced."

The second half of the movie is too overstretched for the critics. Nandini Ramnath says that the deadpan lapses into dead mode towards the second half. Tushar Joshi agrees, "Ghanchakkar has a few memorable scenes, but on the whole it feels like a rushed effort." Saibal Chatterjee likes how it ends but not the complete movie, "Despite its surprise ending, Ghanchakkar fails to engage. It is overstretched, flimsy and ineffectual."
