On rumours of a rift with Madhur Bhandarkar
People have a lot of things to say. I was in Bali on vacation when I got a message from a journalist but I didn't reply as I didn't want to get involved.
I had a wonderful experience working with Madhur and UTV. I know Heroine is Bebo's film; it's called 'Heroine' not 'Hero'. When this film came to me and I read the script, I didn't know if I was going to do it. Later, I felt that I needed to support this film and be part of it - not only from the point of view of my character, but also because it is a wonderful subject and it should be made.
On heroines
In Heroine, I play a superstar. I've seen how many of them behave and what they are all about. My character comes from a disturbed marriage, is having an affair, and is worried about his image and whether it will get tarnished. He is worried about how the lead (Kareena) deals with the situations in her life and how it'll affect him and his career. Madhur has shown many real aspects of the film industry and captured it beautifully, like Mahi's (Kareena's character) insecurity about her career, because most heroines are essentially insecure people.

Every character is important and when I sign a film, I look at it in totality. One person can't make or break a movie. Other characters are needed to take the story forward. There are so many films (in the west) where big actors play small parts and that helps the film succeed. That's because they all want to make a good film.

I believe in the same. I want to contribute to good cinema and not get selfish about my role.
On Kareena
The film is about Mahi's journey. She has a relationship with my character, who is the strongest male role in the film. The film focuses on relationships and love in particular. The other relationship she has is with Randeep Hooda who plays a sportsman who enters her life. Later, she meets Shahana Goswami's character while doing an art film.
