The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a petition seeking cancellation of bail of Bollywood actor Salman Khan who was convicted and sentenced in the 2002 hit and run case.

“The order of Bombay high court does not require interference,” a bench comprising justices FMI Kalifulla and Amitava Roy said.

The bench was hearing a plea filed by Sushila Bai Himmat Rao Patil, through advocate Manohar Lal Sharma.

The plea has alleged that the Bombay high court did not grant the relief to Patil whose son Ravindra Patil, the police bodyguard of Khan and a key witness in the 2002 hit-and-run case, had died under mysterious circumstances.

Besides seeking cancellation of Khan’s bail, the plea had sought a probe into Patil’s death. The apex court did not entertain the appeal filed against the high court order on the issue.

Earlier on August 31, the apex court had refused to entertain a similar plea filed by Sushila Bai Patil.

On May 8, the high court suspended the 5-year sentence of Khan in the case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction.
