Sonali Bendre may be going through the toughest time possible but she has the amazing support of her husband, son, fans and colleagues from Bollywood. The actor, who has been diagnosed with cancer, recently made a post about how much strength her son has shown after she revealed her diagnosis to him.

Now, several stars and celebrities flocked to her Instagram page to show their own appreciation for her son Ranveer and her strength as a human being and a mother. “He is unique. Don’t know who amazes me more, you, him or Goldie,” wrote Hrithik Roshan in a comment. Director Karan Johar also wrote, “Sonali, you are truly a source of tremendous inspiration, you son will be your biggest strength.”

“We do underestimate children sometimes but you me friend are a huge inspiration for a lot of people. Be positive,” wrote Neelam, her co-star from Hum Saath Saath Hain. Farah Khan, Sussanne Khan, Sonal Chauhan, Sophie Choudry, Dia Mirza and others also left messages of support for Sonali in the comments.

Sonali shared a photo with Ranveer in which the mother-son duo look straight into the camera; the actor is wearing her hair even shorter than her last video revealed. “From the moment he was born 12 years, 11 months and 8 days ago, my amazing @rockbehl took ownership of my heart. From then on, his happiness and well-being have been the centre of anything @goldiebehl and I ever did. And so, when the Big C reared its ugly head, our biggest dilemma was what and how we were going to tell him,” Sonali says in her post.

Sonali says that instead of trying to protect Ranveer from reality, she and husband Goldie Behl decided to be honest with him. “As much as we wanted to protect him, we knew it was important to tell him the full facts. We’ve always been open and honest with him and this time it wasn’t going to be different. He took the news so maturely… and instantly became a source of strength and positivity for me. In some situations now, he even reverses roles and takes on being the parent, reminding me of things I need to do!”

Sonali also reflected on the need to keep children involved in the situation rather than keeping them hanging. She adds in her post, “I believe that it’s imperative to keep kids involved in a situation like this. They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. It’s important to spend time with them and include them, rather than make them wait on the side-lines, not being told yet instinctively knowing everything. In our effort to protect them from the pain and realities of life, we might end up doing the opposite.”

She added that she is spending time with her son in New York now. “I’m spending time with Ranveer right now, while he’s on summer vacation. His madness and shenanigans help me #SwitchOnTheSunshine. And today, we derive strength from each other #OneDayAtATime.”
