It is heartbreaking when a film that you work so hard on doesn’t do well”, says Sidharth Malhotra. The actor, who made his debut in 2012, has been pretty lucky as far as box-office success is concerned. However, he doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. “We are all human, we are all in the creative field and we all want our films to do well and get the best response. But things don’t always work out. I think dealing with that comes with experience and age. You have to understand that you cannot be appreciated all the time in anything you do. It can’t always be an upward graph. It’s the swinging graph that makes you understand more; makes you more resilient. For me, it’s a great learning (experience) to understand that anything good or bad doesn’t last very long. I can’t live off the success and failures of the past and the failures,” he says.

Though his last outing — Baar Baar Dekho, alongside Katrina Kaif — did not set the cash registers ringing, the actor does not regret signing the film. “In terms of my performance, I could have definitely done better. Everything has scope for improvement. If you show me a scene or a take of [one of my] films, I am never happy. I am always very critical of myself. But I have no regrets. And I’m saying it to be honest, not to protect or safeguard anybody,” says the 31-year-old.

Sidharth adds, “I’m very aware of what I’m signing. I’ve tried to do different things and choose from what is offered to me. There is a thought and reasoning behind it (my decisions). And once you have that, you don’t regret it (decisions).”
