The recent gang-rape case in Delhi and the ensuing protests are all that people are talking about these days. But director Sudhir Mishra is clear that it would be in bad taste for him to promote his upcoming film using the case.
Inkaar deals with sexual harassment at the workplace. And the horrific gang-rape of the 23-year-olg girl has struck a chord. While he condemns the incident, Sudhir clarifies, “The case is horrendous, and I don’t think it would be in good taste to associate my film with it. The movie shouldn’t be judged keeping the incident in mind either. I’m glad that middle-class India has woken up to this issue. I am hopeful about today’s generation, which my generation has treated condescendingly till now.”
Releasing on January 18, Inkaar is based on a power struggle at the workplace. “It’s not a film about who is right and wrong; it’s about the duality of the characters. That is the most intriguing part of the film,” says Sudhir.
The Arjun Rampal-Chitrangda Singh starrer was slated to release in October this year, but it was held back to avoid clashing with big-budget releases. Sudhir adds, “Arjun already had two releases (Heroine and Chakravyuh) at that time, so we wanted a gap. Finding the right time to release your film is one of the key factors to make it work.”
