I realised I have a lot of patience: Kashmera Shah

Actor Kashmera Shah who has taken up direction, says directing is fun but it’ll take a long time for it to take over her love for acting.

Actor Kashmera Shah believes in doing things differently. Known for her outspoken and bold image, she has now turned to direction with a short film. “I have always been a good writer and won awards in school and college. I have been actively involved in theatre too. So it was innate in me,” she says talking about what inspired her to direct.

Admitting that it wasn’t easy at all, she says, “I was the hardest on my performance. I am an actor pampered spoilt and a brat. So when I gave my first few shots as a director, I would forget to instruct the next one. I am so used to going into my vanity and resting. I got used to it (direction) by third day. So my actors started pampering me. It was kind of cute.”

And what remained the biggest challenge? “Getting the right cast was the biggest challenge. And getting people to get up their lazy ass and move fast – it was fun to push fifteen men around,” she laughs.

Now that Kashmera has tried hands at both the crafts, she confesses that acting is her first love. “Directing is fun, but it’ll take a long time for it to take over my love for acting. There’s a huge difference between both, because when you are acting, you only think about your role or maybe how the other person would react. In direction, you u have to think about everyone and everything.”

Ask her the things she discovered about herself in this whole process of turning into a director, she replies, “I never believed it when people said I was strict. Or when they said I was kinky. (Also), I realised I have a lot of patience.”
