Actor-filmmaker Prabhu Deva was in the Capital recently to promote his upcoming film Ramaiya Vastavaiya. The romantic comedy, scheduled to release on July 19, features actor Shruti Haasan and debutant Girish Kumar Taurani.

Ask the 40-year-old about his expectations from the lead stars and he says, “I want the audience to accept them as actors. Shruti has already been accepted; I want people to accept Girish too.” As for the film’s unique title, Prabhu says, “Ramaiya Vastavaiya means ‘Ram, will you come?’. The movie is a remake of the Telegu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which was my first film as a director. So it’s close to my heart.”

In the past, Prabhu as a director, has worked with actors like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Ask him how was the experience working with a newcomer and he says, “The challenge was there, but Girish is a hard working boy. I asked him to practice Bollywood dance for a year, so that he can open up.”
Speaking of dance, what is his take on the dance reality shows on TV? “It is good that choreographers and participants are getting an opportunity to showcase their talent,” he says.
