Jag Mundhra to discuss script with Priyanka, Rahul Gandhi

A film on Sonia Gandhi is an exciting prospect. Probably that’s why filmmaker Jag Mundhra is leaving no stone unturned to realise his dream of making a motion picture on the Congress president’s life. He now plans to meet Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra and son-in-law Robert Vadra, after wrapping up his next film.

“A friend, who is quite close to Priyanka and Robert, offered to arrange a meeting with them. But since Mrs Gandhi had strong objections to the film, I didn’t go ahead. However, I plan to meet Priyanka and Robert, when I am done shooting my next, Kissa Kutte Ka,” he says.

Ask Mundhra if he plans to meet Rahul Gandhi as well and he smiles: “Right now, I don’t have such plans but who knows. Ultimately, Mrs Gandhi has to take a call on my film, but I would love to get Priyanka, Robert and Rahul’s opinions on the script.”

Sonia

For the uninitiated, Mundhra’s much-hyped project, Sonia, based on the life of the Congress president, has been stuck for five years after the political party issued him a legal notice. But Mundhra is happy that at least Congress workers are now content with the script. "Earlier, they felt my film has a political agenda, but now it’s clear that it has nothing to do with politics," he says.

Meanwhile, Mundhra is experimenting with a unique casting process, for his political satire Kissa Kutte Ka, through an online portal and has already roped in the 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD)’s Atul Mongia to help him do the casting. “I watched LSD and was amazed to see a fantastic film without any famous faces. Interested actors can now visit the website and upload their profiles and show reels for the particular characters,” explains Mundhra.
