A jugni-style Punjabi folk song sung at weddings will be shot for the promotional campaign of Tanu Weds Manu, toplining R Madhavan, Kangna Ranaut and Jimmy Sheirgill. Director Anand Rai explains that Jugni, meaning female firefly, is used in folk music by the poets and lyricists as an observer to make incisive, often humourous and sometimes sad, but always touching observations.

“In our film, we’re describing the protagonists, more specially Tanu played by Kangna, and her take on life in a fun yet meaningful manner.” The song describes the film’s Tanu as fearless, wild, sensitive, naughty, vibrant, lovable, and vulnerable.”

Was the song added as an after-thought? "No, it was part of the plan to shoot it last so we could use it in the promotional campaign during the last two weeks prior to release and it would give us a marketing push," says Rai.

The song will be wrapped up in two days, starting January 30. It will be shot on two different sets and choreographed by Saroj Khan.

“One part will be set in a baarat, and the other in the interiors to show the sensual side of Tanu” says Rai. The song has been sung by Mika.

The Jugni track has cost producers Shailesh R Singh, and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures CO. Ltd., R 50 lakh approximately. Rai says, “It comes at the climax, and sets the celebratory mood for the storyline to move towards its logical end. But it’s not an additional item track for the end credits.”
