Malala Yousafzai : A Bollywood biopic on the invincible activist is being shot in Kashmir

A film titled Gul Makai will narrate the story of Malala Yousafzai, the courageous Pakistani activist that defied Taliban. The biopic is currently being shot in Kashmir.

Few have it in them to take evil head on like Malala Yousafzai . The young Pakistani activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner is an inspiration for women and men across the world. A Bollywood film titled Gul Makai , based on her extraordinary life is being shot in Kashmir.

The cast of the film includes Reem Shaikh, Divya Dutta, Mukesh Rishi, Abhimanyu Singh and Ajaz Khan. The actors have been shooting in the valley since January 3. The film also casts around 150 local artists of Kashmir. Scheduled to be released in June this year, the biopic is directed by Amjad Khan and produced by Anand Kumar under the banner of Renaissance Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

Indian television actor Reem Shaikh plays the character of the 20-year-old Malala in the film. Reem is a well-known child artist, who started her career back in the year 2009. She was seen in TV shows such as Yeh Rista Kya Kehlata Hai, Diya Aur Baati Hum and others. She also shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar in the film Wazir.

Though Reem initially had difficulties while shooting in the chilly weather, the actor was very impressed by the beauty of Kashmir. In an interview to an online portal in Kashmir, the 15 -year -old actor praised the beauty of the valley. “It is a peaceful place. There is no violence here. I have been staying in the valley for the past ten days and will be staying another ten days. If you are planning a holiday, then you must visit Kashmir,” the actor said.

The film based on the Pakistani education advocate has already generated interest among activists and peaceniks on both side of the border. At the age of 17, Malala became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize after surviving an assassination attempt by the Taliban in 2012. She founded the Malala Fund, a non-profit organisation and in 2013 co-authored I am Malala, an international bestseller. Malala has continued to speak out on the importance of education.
