Marco Mueller to be on Cinefan Fest jury

Marco Mueller, the new director of the Rome Film Festival, will serve on Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival jury. The 10-day event will run from July 27 to August 5 in New Delhi, reports Gautaman Bhaskaran.

Mueller will also deliver the Mani Kaul Memorial Lecture at the Festival.

Kaul, who died last year, was the Creative Director of Cinefan since 2006. He was the Director-General of the Festival’s 11th edition.

Mueller, who piloted the Venice Film Festival for eight years, saving a virtually sinking event and placing it firmly on terra firma, will hopefully push Rome to greater heights and make it a strong competitor to Venice, the world’s oldest Festival, which will celebrate 80 years this August.

Cinefan, organised by the arts foundation, Osian’s, rose dramatically before it had to call off two of its editions in 2010 and 2011, presumably because of funding problems. This year, the Festival begins its re-run literally with a bang, showcasing 200 movies representing the cream of Arab, Asian and Indian cinema.

Another interesting highlight will be a section called “Sex & Religion in India: Silk Smitha, Sex Gurus and Indian Cinema,” where movies on the country’s so-called sexual revolution through the ages will be featured.
