Jumanji The Next Level day 1 box office: Dwayne Johnson’s film makes impressive start at 6.2 cr, Mardaani 2 makes 3.8 cr

Mardaani 2 day 1 box office collection: The Rani Mukerji film opened at ₹3.80 crores while the Dwayne Johnson starrer picked up ₹6.20 crores nett.

Rani Mukerji’s latest film, Mardaani 2, had a slow start on Friday but picked up momentum after 3 pm shows, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film made 3.80 crores on day 1. Audience, however, seems to have preferred Jumanji - The Next Level more, which has made 6.20 crores from Thursday previews and Friday collections, as per Taran.

Tweeting Mardaani 2’s numbers, Taran wrote: “#Mardaani2 witnesses stronger occupancy post 3 pm shows, after a lukewarm takeoff in morning... Multiplexes are dominating... Riding on super-strong word of mouth + tremendous critical acclaim, the footfalls should multiply on Day 2 and 3... Fri 3.80 cr. #India biz.”

The film, he said, is enjoying a strong word of mouth and that multiplexes is where the growth has been maximum. He predicted that footfalls should go up on Saturday and Sunday.

Kevin Hart, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson starrer Jumanji - The Next Level emerged the most preferred of all the Friday releases and made 6.02 crores in earning from its Thursday previews and Friday collections.

Tweeting the numbers, Taran wrote: “#Hollywood dominates yet again... #Jumanji: #TheNextLevel embarks on an impressive start... Bigger start than its prequel #Jumanji: #WelcomeToTheJungle... Thu previews 1.15 cr, Fri 5.05 cr. Total: 6.20 cr Nett BOC. #India biz. All versions. #JumanjiTheNextLevel.”

 

A Box Office India report said the other releases of the day -- The Body and Mudda 370 -- picked up an estimated 50 lakhs and 10 lakhs respectively.

Mardaani 2 follows a cat-and- mouse game between a gutsy woman police officer, played by Rani Mukerji, and an intelligent but evil monster, a serial rapist, played by newcomer, TV actor Vishal Jethwa.

Jumanji follows the lives of a bunch of people who accidentally find themselves caught inside a board game and is an endearing franchise made popular by the first film, starring late Robin Williams.

Speaking about the film, the Hindustan Times review said, “Hastily wrapped in Christmas colours and unenthusiastically conceived, Jumanji: The Next Level is more like a last-minute gift intended for a casual workplace acquaintance than a sequel to an almost billion-dollar hit.”
