Sidharth Malhotra has been part of various genres spanning from drama and action to even romantic comedies. Now, the actor is currently shooting for Aiyaary, a crime drama, as well as the modern adaptation of the thriller Ittefaq (1969). In his short time in Bollywood, the actor has explored different subjects and has always maintained that he is proud of his choices. Excerpts from an interview:

It’s clichéd to begin with, but where do you see yourself five years from now?

I definitely see myself continuing to act — doing different kinds of roles and working in different genres.

In the personal space, would you be married by then?

Well… I don’t know. My mum would be happy [if that happens]. Marriage is something I have not planned for yet. No offense, but I don’t get the whole concept of arranged marriage. I’d rather know the person who I’ll settle down with. But if I had to put a cap on it, maybe I will get hitched in my 30s.

If you were now offered a biopic, a period film or a superhero flick, which genre would you like to explore first?

Would you ever like to get into direction or film production in the future?

I think that will happen. We are all storytellers. I would like to inspire people and tell more stories. I would never refuse a film or do a film for a certain amount of money. If there is a story I can contribute to by being a producer, and then I will 100% tell that story. So, definitely, a few years from now, I’d like to back stories as a producer.

What is the one dialogue from a movie that you can relate to personally?

I guess the one from the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). Even though it is very typical, but that’s what comes to my mind — the scene where Shah Rukh Khan is telling Farida Jalal about sahi raasta (right way) and galat raasta (the wrong path). Sahi raasta chunoge toh mushkil hogi (If you choose the right way, you might have to face difficulties), baad mein (later), it will all get sorted out. It (the dialogue) is something I grew up with and that has always remained with me.

The actor will next be seen in A Gentleman co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez, Aiyaary, and Ittefaq alongside Sonakshi Sinha.
