Mallika Sherawat, whose film, Hisss, released yesterday, talks about what it took to get into the ‘skin’ of her character of a snake woman.
There have been many movies on the snake woman. Which is your favourite?
My personal favourite was Sridevi in and as Naagin.
What makes your film different from the other ones made on the same subject?
The uniqueness of the film is the visual of the transformation of a woman into a snake. Abroad, the superheroes are Superman and Spiderman; we will bring the Indian superhero, the naagin, to an international platform.
What kind of effort was required to get ready for the role?
It took me four to five hours to apply the makeup; I couldn’t walk and people had to carry me. For the first time in Bollywood, you will see a girl transforming into a snake — in live action.
What is the modus operandi of the naagin of Hisss?
She is very dangerous. A person bitten by her begs for forgiveness but she eats her prey alive, much like an anaconda.
Did you have to make any special preparations for the role?
We celebrate naagpanchami and pray to the naag devta — it’s all there is the film. The difference is the special effects. The way Rajinikanth has got the special effects from Hollywood, I have done the same and used it in my film. Maine bahut papad bele hai iss role ke liye. It demanded a lot of me. The snakes are cold blooded creatures with a 180 degree vision. Like the snakes, even I have shed my skin for the role.
