Actor Neha Dhupia, who plays a media professional in her upcoming film Rush, admits that she has lost faith in the credibility of news broadcast on TV channels.
“I have almost stopped believing the news that is shown on TV. I know now that whatever we see on the channels is exaggerated,” says Neha.
Neha also adds that the role was challenging for her as it required her to grab the mannerisms of professionals in detail. “I visited lots of news channels to know how they work. Normally, I get to play a girl next door who falls in love with a boy… But this role was very character driven,” says Neha, revealing, “My character is very grey — a mix of good, bad and ugly. But none of these aspects were easy to play.”
The actor is paired with Emraan Hashmi, who plays a media tycoon in this Percept Pictures’ film directed by debutant Priyanka Dhawan and director Shamim Desai.
Neha also reveals that after having worked on this project, her respect for journalists has risen. “Hats off to journalists. They’re so knowledgeable and work very hard. It’s incredible how many times they are on duty 24 hours in a row, sometimes even without a single day off in a whole month. Now, I also understand the importance of deadlines and competition among channels to be the first ones to break a particular story.”
She adds, “As an actor, whenever I’d give interviews, I could never understand why the headline would be so misleading the next day in the news. Now I understand that they do it to grab maximum eyeballs.”
