Irrfan Khan admits that his next film Paan Singh Tomar, directed by his National School of Drama (NSD) friend, Tigmanshu Dhulia, based on a real story of the life of a dacoit, is very close to his heart. So much so that the actor is preparing to host a private screening of the film for his Hollywood actor friends and associates, where he’ll even discuss the film at an after-party.
A source close to Irrfan reveals that he has invited Hollywood big shots like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Ang Lee and Natalie Portman among others to the party. Confirming the news, Irrfan says, “I am looking at showcasing the film to my friends there, and obviously, we’ll bond over it at the after-party.”
The actor, who has previously worked in Hollywood projects such as A Mighty Heart (2007) and Slumdog Millionaire (2008), and will soon be seen in another franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man, however, refrains from divulging any details of his plan. “I cannot give you the specifics of the screening or the after-party,” he says.
Irfan has also been in talks with the producers, UTV Motion Pictures, for the screening of the film, as he wants the dacoits in Chambal to watch it. Since Pan Singh’s death, most have completed their punishments and are living a normal life.
Actor Mahie Gill, who is playing Paan Singh’s wife Indira, in the film, has also heard of this new development and equally excited to be part of it. “Such an event is supposed to take place. It would be really nice if a cross-cultural view is obtained about Indian films,” she says. The film, releasing on March 2, gives a fantastic insight into Chambal, in the interiors of Madhya Pradesh, which is infamously associated with the ferocious dacoits. Paan Singh Tomar, surprisingly, was an ex-army man and a national-level athlete, who in the later part of his life, ganged up with gunmen.
