Papa Please follows Taare Zameen Par template

After the unprecedented success of actor Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par (TZP, 2007), which dealt with dyslexia, a new film titled Papa Please will focus on the undue pressure that kids are being subjected to on a regular basis to excel in academics.

“The template is the same, but the story is absolutely different,” says actor Sanjay Suri, who plays a teacher in the film. Directed by debutant Shashi Verma and produced by Dr Deepankar Roy and Binod Gupta, Papa Please deals with the pressure parents and institutions inflict on students and youngsters. “The film is from the point of view of a girl who has the tremendous pressure of topping every time and how this pressure affects the psyche of the child,” says Sanjay, who is basking in the success of his last film, I Am (2011), which received the National Award this year.

Papa Please is a father-daughter story. Actor Vipin Sharma, who played Darsheel Safari’s father in Taare Zameen Par, plays pretty much the same role in this film too. Bengali actor Roopa Ganguly will play the mother of the child.

Prod him about how different the film would be from TZP, and he says, “The treatment and how the director takes you through the film is completely different.”

The film has just gone on the floors and is expected to release by the middle of this year.
