Ajay Devgn gave a stellar performance as a cop, who gets transferred to an area that is notorious for its crime rate, in the 2003 film, Gangaajal. Now, after more than a decade, the Prakash Jha directorial is set to get a sequel. However, this time, Ajay will not play the central character in the film. Rumours are rife that Priyanka Chopra has been roped in to essay the lead role in the sequel. "Prakash Jha is known for making socio-political films and for this one, he wanted a female protagonist, unlike in the original. Priyanka Chopra has a role similar to the one Ajay had in Gangaajal," says a source.
Apparently, Priyanka was more than keen to take up the role as she has been an admirer of Jha’s work as a film-maker. "The actor is interested in doing this film, and has agreed to sit with the director to understand the character thoroughly once she completes her present commitments," says the source.

When contacted, Priyanka’s spokesperson confirmed the news, but didn’t divulge the details. "The paperwork is under process, so we can’t comment on it at the moment," saidher spokesperson.
