Producer John to launch TV actor

She made her TV debut with Chand Ke Paar Chalo, but Yami Gautam’s claim to fame has been the Colors show, Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam. Now, thanks to John Abraham, she is set to make her Bollywood debut with his maiden production venture, Vicky Donor.

Now, thanks to John Abraham, she is set to make her Bollywood debut with his maiden production venture, Vicky Donor. In this Shoojit Sircar-directed film, she will play the role of a Bengali girl, Ashima Roy, opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, who plays a Punjabi boy.

“Yami is simply brilliant in Vicky Donor. She is a stunning girl and I am sure people will fall in love with her after watching it,” says John, whose film also stars Annu Kapoor. “Like Ayushman, I want to make sure that Yami also gets her rightful position in the industry because she is superb. I believe Shoojit and I have introduced a new lovable couple in the industry. They are wonderful together and I am proud of them.”

Before Vicky Donor, Yami has acted in a Kannada film, Ullasa Utsaha (2010) followed by Ravi Babu’s Telugu film, Nuvvila (2011) and a Punjabi film Ek Noor (2011). Ask John what inspired him to promote Yami and Ayushman, when he is still a leading man in the industry, and he says with a smile: “People look at me with amazement and say, ‘amidst so much competition, you are promoting new talent!’ But I feel there’s enough for everyone in the ocean. Why are we holding ourselves back from promoting new faces? The problem is that we are all like crabs in a basket. That’s why we have such a small number of actors and even fewer actresses.”
