Ready to take the hit: Homi Adajania on Deepika Padukone video

Director Homi Adajania, who has got flak for the controversial viral video 'My Choice' featuring Deepika Padukone, clarifies his stance.

Deepika Padukone's My Choice video, which claims to reiterate a woman’s right to make her own choice, went viral recently. While many praised its intention, it also found detractors. Director Homi Adajania, who has been unavailable to comment on the issue till now, has finally spoken up.

"Our film is a reminder that all women’s choices, however unconventional they may be, are their own. The intention of the film does not, in any way, advocate or promote the actions in the words. We all have to make choices in life after considering the consequences," says Homi, adding, "Ironically, the misunderstanding is what made the video go explosively viral, and if that’s what it takes to get people discussing gender equality, then I am willing to take the hit and be misunderstood. More power to women, and let’s hope that a healthy discussion on gender equality continues."

Most of the critisicm circled around the fact that instead of talking about rape, female foeticide, domestic violence, harassment at workplace, pay gap, the intrusive male gaze and other such issues that a woman has to deal with everyday, the video chose to talk about topics which are elitist, to say the least.
