The Supreme Court verdict against actor Sanjay Dutt, who was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case and has been sentenced five years in jail (of which he has already served 18 months) has put the fate of his ongoing projects — Policegiri, P.K., the Zanjeer remake and Ghanchakkar — in the dock. In spite of support from most of the industry, the fate of Sanjay’s upcoming films is still undecided.
There was some hope that the actor would be able to finish shooting for all the films as he was given four weeks to surrender and was reportedly going to file a review petition as well. The situation has now turned grimmer as Sanjay declared in a press conference on Thursday that he was not going to file for a review and will surrender when the time comes.
However, a recent development suggests that if not all his films, south director KS Ravikumar’s Hindi directorial debut Policegiri, at least, is not at risk, since 95 per cent of the shoot was completed before the verdict came out. Now the makers only have a couple of scenes left to shoot before the film is ready to release.
Confirming this development, the producer of the film Rahul Aggarwal, says, “After a great shoot on Thursday, only six or seven days of work is left, which includes a song as well. We are scheduled for a June 14 release.” The film featuring Prachi Desai, as the female lead opposite Sanjay, is already into post production.
