If you thought being an actor was easy, ask Sonam Kapoor. The young artiste, who was recently rushed to the hospital after falling ill, has been battling a number of health problems due to her hectic work schedule. After developing a stomach infection while shooting for Aisha over a year and a half ago, she came down with typhoid while shooting in Toronto for Thank You, and had a recent relapse, which sent her to the hospital.

But ask Sonam if she’s finally learnt to put her foot down about working extra hours, she says, “I don’t think I can be that firm yet. If I have shot for 10 hours and the producer wants another two because someone else is not available the next day, then I’m considerate about such situations. Maybe another actor would refuse, but I can’t say no.”

Her father Anil Kapoor recently went on record to say that he’d like his daughter not to overwork herself, but Sonam argues, “We had permission to shoot Thank You at Niagara Falls for only three days. It was an expensive outdoor schedule with the actors and a crew of over 150 people. Dad said I should have taken a break, but I didn’t know it was typhoid at the time and didn’t think it would be right to take a couple of days off,” she recalls. Sonam also admits that being the producer’s daughter added to her guilt: “I think of all the money wasted, which will unnecessarily add to the cost. I feel the producer’s grief.”

After being discharged from the hospital, where she was placed on an intravenous drip for five days, Sonam has been advised bed-rest for at least another 10 days. She admits being miserable about missing promotions for her movie that released on Friday, but is quick to add, “It’s probably God’s way of telling me to take time off. After completing three films and promoting two, my heroes are now worrying about my dates.”
