After winning the top honours for his thriller Kahaani at most award ceremonies this year, director Sujoy Ghosh is on cloud nine. He however says that he’s still not the “most sought after” in Bollywood.
“Kahaani may have brought me unprecedented recognition, but it’s not that heroines are queuing up outside my door to work with me,” says Ghosh, who is currently co-scripting Knight And Day, the Hindi remake of the 2010 Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Hollywood hit by the same name. It’ll see Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in the lead. “In Bollywood, there are only two people I can count on. Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan. I know for sure that they will never tell me ‘No’,” adds the 46-year-old, who’s also all set to don the actor’s cap too, to play ace detective Byomkesh Bakshi in Rituparno Ghosh’s next.

Filmmaker Anurag Basu has never had it going so good— and controversial— at the same time. The 38-year-old, who has just won many best film awards for Barfi! back home even as the film was India’s official entry for consideration at the Oscars, refuses to take all the criticism for alleged plagiarism.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation, which is the watchdog of intellectual property, has honoured me and that matters to me. The Charlie Chaplin scenes are iconic and you can’t copy them. There’s a scene where the camera pans and stays on a Charlie Chaplin poster. It was my way of paying tribute consciously, and I knew what I was doing,” says Basu.

Asked what’s up next, he says, “To be honest, I haven’t decided which project to start now. I am confused as I have some scripts ready. I need to choose which one needs to come first. But I have to confess, after Barfi!, there is huge pressure on me to deliver.”
