What happened a few weeks ago with Ram Gopal Varma’s Veerappan is now happening with producer Sujoy Ghosh’s TE3N, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan. If Bollywood was surprised when Varma was beaten at the box office by The Angry Birds, this week it is Ghosh’s turn to fear The Conjuring 2’s run at the ticket windows. TE3N earned Rs 4.51 crore on its first day, a marginally poor show compared to the Rs 5.25 crore The Conjuring 2 earned.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the business figures of both the films.
This trend of Hollywood films doing better business in India is a wake up call for domestic filmmakers. In the recent past, films like Furious 7, Jurassic World, Deadpool and Avengers did phenomenal business in India. The Jungle Book even crossed Rs 200 crore mark which is a tough benchmark for even star-heavy Hindi films.
