Actor Urvashi Rautela, who’s worked with artists like Sunny Deol, Honey Singh, and Vivek Oberoi, feels that women should not consider themselves weakUpdated: Nov 04, 2017 16:09 IST
Hollywood is clearly in the midst of a storm with top men and women going public about their harrowing sexual harassment experiences. Besides that, personal stories also poured in from women, irrespective of industries, across the world, with the hashtag #MeToo becoming a rallying cry against sexual assault and harassment. Model-turned-actor Urvashi Rautela, who is currently shooting for her upcoming movie, Hate Story 4, feels that these crimes — be it on the home ground or aboard — are serious, and the victims deserve justice.
She says, “There is a growing sense of frustration in all walks of the society (throughout the world) on our collective failure to protect our women and children. I want to convey to women across the globe that they aren’t weak. They can fight for themselves and get justice. It’s one of the reasons why I agreed to do a film that has a strong female lead.”
As far as the punishment is concerned, I feel that chemical castration will be good for rapist and pedophiles.
With respect to India, she goes on, “As far as the punishment is concerned, I feel that chemical castration will be good for rapist and pedophiles. Castration is intended to have a deterrent effect and prevent sexual offenses.”
Urvashi had made her Bollywood debut with Sunny Deol-starrer Singh Saab the Great (2013). She was also seen in movies such as Sanam Re (2016) and Great Grand Masti (2016), and a performance in Haseeno Ka Deewana track from Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil (2017).
Her film, which is the fourth installment of the revenge drama series which started in 2012, is being shot in London and also stars Khatron Ke Khiladi contestant and popular television actor Karan Wahi. It is being directed by Vishal Pandya and will release early next year. Urvashi, who will be seen playing the role of a supermodel, claims that the movie is based on real-life incidents. Urvashi says, “My role is dedicated to all those who been have been a victim of such crimes. I can understand the angst they feel. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or woman, you need to stand up for yourself. If you have been abused, you deserve justice. In our society, there is a lawful expectation that justice should occur, in that those who commit sexual offenses are held to account and appropriately punished.”
Hate Story starred Bengali hottie, Paoli Dam, Hate Story 2 starred, Surveen Chawla, while Hate Story 3, saw Zarine Khan and Daisy Shah in the lead role. And they all made news for being bold and sexy. So how ready is Urvashi for such labels? “For me, a script has to be convincing, bold and experimental. It needs to overpower all my senses. Everything else, I can handle.”
But there were rumours that the actor has signed a no love-making clause for the movie. Urvashi explains, “Yes, there is a clause but I won’t get into the details of it. But yes, I have signed a similar clause. However, I would urge everyone to see the movie and then decide.”
Looking ahead, Urvashi says that she wants to do roles that will allow her to display her dancing skills. “I am a trained classical dancer, and I am open to showcase my skills on screen. For this movie, I have, in fact, choreographed a few songs along with the choreographer,” she says, adding, “I want to promote different Indian dance forms.”
Lastly, she says that she is also working on an out-and-out family entertainer wherein she is playing the role of a girl-next-door.
