Vidya Balan is Pakistani artist’s muse

Actor Madhuri Dixit has been the muse of legendary artist, the late MF Husain, through the ’90s and now it seems like actor Vidya Balan has found a fan in Pakistani artist Muhammad Zeeshan. He is the latest to join the ‘artist and muse’ bandwagon, and is immensely inspired by the Dirty Picture star. Zeeshan has worked up his magic on the canvas and created a painting of the actor titled Vidya, for his second solo in India that opened in the Capital yesterday at art gallery Latitude 28. It shows Balan as a Sufi mythical character.

"Vidya is my heroine. Whenever I think of the term ‘woman’, I think of her. Vidya represents all that," says Zeeshan, who worked as a billboard painter in his initial days.

He adds, "I am a Bollywood junkie and I’ve been painting Bollywood characters for a long time." The actor, too, seems to be flattered by the whole affair. When we contacted her, Balan said, “I’m flattered to be Zeeshan’s inspiration for his Sufi painting. One always hopes to touch people’s hearts through one’s work. I love the idea of Sufism, so I can’t wait to see his work. I’m intrigued and humbled."

Titled Posternama, the show very interestingly juxtaposes pop and miniature style paintings. “For this, I am using poster images found locally within our culture. These imageries consist of mythical and human creatures and illustrate the time, events and landscape.”
