Looks like biopics are the flavour of the season in Bollywood. And the latest to hop on to the bandwagon is Vidya Balan. A few days ago, the actor confirmed that she is doing yet another biopic after The Dirty Picture (2011). Although there were reports that the biopic might be based on the life of Indira Gandhi, we have learnt that she might be playing Carnatic classical singer MS Subbulakshmi in filmmaker Rajiv Menon’s upcoming film.

Menon’s film is apparently a lavish musical for which he is already in talks with several financiers. The filmmaker has directed the 1997 film Minsara Kanavu (Sapnay in Hindi) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) in the past. “Vidya has almost wrapped up Raj Kumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar with Emraan Hashmi. Post that, she will work on Shaadi Ke Side Effects with Farhan Akhtar and is likely to start either Sujoy Ghosh’s next or the biopic,” says an insider.

Apparently, Vidya is a huge fan of the legendary singer. Vidya remained unavailable for a comment. However, a few days ago, the 35-year-old actor had told us: “I can’t reveal much as I’m bound by contract. All I can say is that I’m doing a biopic. When the time is right, the makers will make the necessary annou-ncement,” she had said. Rajiv, who is travelling to South Africa, also couldn’t be reached for a comment.

Interestingly, Vidya isn’t the only one working on a biopic. Priyanka Chopra is also preparing to play Olympic medallist Mary Kom. “I’m extremely stressed about the Mary Kom biopic because she’s a huge name to live up to. I’m really excited, but I honestly don’t know if I can pull off any film before I get into it,” she says.

Similarly, Ranbir Kapoor is slated to work in a Kishore Kumar biopic with Anurag Basu while Farhan Akhtar’s take on Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, is ready for release. Shah Rukh Khan is also believed to be in talks to play hockey star Dhyan Chand even as Tigmanshu Dhulia is is working on a venture on Verghese Kurien, the father of the White Revolution.
