Vivek Oberoi: Web has more reach than films; it also gives incredible freedom

Actor Vivek Oberoi talks about the perks of doing web series and how it will benefit his career in the long run.

Vivek Oberoi, who recently acted in a web series titled Inside Edge is quite happy with his decision of trying a digital medium. He feels that it was only wise to try out a new medium that is gradually spreading its wings.

“No matter how big a Hindi film turns out to be, it reaches to a certain territory [only]. This [web content] reaches 200 territories, globally. So, someone sitting in a different part of the world will [also] get to watch my work and say, ‘I like this guy’,” says Vivek, who was last seen on the silver screen in the film Bank Chor alongside Ritiesh Deshmukh.

The 40-year-old actor, who has been part of films such as Saathiya (2002), Yuva (2004), Omkara (2006) and Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), feels that it is important for an actor to take his work to as many people as he can and expand his viewership by all possible means.

“First and foremost, it’s very important to make sure that your content goes all over the world and people watch it. Second is to attempt something that is very different. It helps you grow as an actor,” says Vivek, adding that the best thing about web is that one is able to create different kind of content without worrying about what’s allowed and what’s not, and living up to the audience’s expectations.

“It gives you an incredible amount of freedom. So freedom and reach are the two big plus points that we have in this medium. We must take every opportunity, which can strengthen these two pillars,” adds the actor.
