Last year, she joined Facebook on her birthday (July 16). Then earlier this year, Katrina Kaif debuted on Instagram too. Clearly, the actor is a late bloomer in the virtual world. On the other hand, her contemporaries — seasoned social media users by now — seem to think that social media can be distracting.

Katrina Kaif feels that the phone culture itself can take over your life.

Katrina agrees and says, “Yes, it could be true. I was actually thinking about it the other day. But for me, it’s all about making it a nearly non-existent [part of your life]. You can’t get too used to it and dedicate unreasonable amount of time.”

Katrina Kaif will next be seen in Jagga Jasoos alongside Ranbir Kapoor.

The Dhoom:3 (2013) actor believes that social media is “something that you [should] do very casually”. “And hopefully, you put out [through social media outlets] only a certain amount of things or moments, which are candid, special and fun. But yes, you have to be careful,” says Katrina, adding that when she’s shooting and is on the sets, she never has phone with her.

Interestingly, Katrina feels that the “phone culture itself can take over your life”. “So, you have to be a bit conscious, which I am on a film set. I put my phone away or hand it over to my assistant. Maybe, I take a look at it only during the lunch break and later,” says the actor.

Katrina recently shot with Salman Khan for Tiger Zinda Hai, which is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Katrina was also part of Zafar’s directorial debut, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011). “Ali’s first film was with me, so I can see his growth now. Sultan (2016) is a wonderful film. I could see [his evolution in] that because I know him on a personal level, and I felt good seeing that there was a big change in him as a director,” says Katrina, who will next be seen in a film with Ranbir Kapoor, the release of which has been delayed multiple times.

Ask her about the delay and she says, “I don’t want to say, ‘it’s this [reason] or that [reason]’ or ‘whatever [else] it is’. That’s for the audience to judge but all I can say is that the uniqueness of this film required [it to go through] this process. That’s the best way to put it,” says Katrina, who has completed 12 years in Bollywood.

Katrina Kaif will be seen alongside Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai.

“You know, instead of thinking, ‘oh, how long is the film taking’ or ‘what’s going to happen to it’, I only focus on the ‘now’ part. I am always like, ‘today, I am on the set – whether it’s the third year or the second month of the film – and there is a camera in front of me, so I better be 1000% focused and inspired,” she says.
