WAP the Net

Get the basics rightSerious about a career, job or business opportunity in WAP? Get your basics right first - this book is a comprehensive presentation of WAP applications and their technological foundations. For instance, you get to learn about wireless packet data networks, wireless standards & protocol, WAP gateways, wireless transport layer security, GSM, GPRS, WLL, and 3G among others. On an advanced note, separate lessons are devoted to different types of WAP applications suchas business, location-based, or location-independent.
Examples are interesting. At page 40, you will find one that says "…If you have a WAP-enabled phone and are visiting Europe, you can [actually!] access a service called Guide@Michelin [anywhere in the region]...it will guide you to the nearest place to eat or sleep…"
All in all, the authors get very technical about WAP. Not a book for CEOs or the top management, but those wanting to get cracking on serious WAP technologies may consider buying this book.
Must-see: Appendices II & III, which consist of the current WAP-services (Café Mumbai, flight booking, restaurant guide, traffic information, banking transactions, etc.) being offered in India, by companies such as ICICI and HDFC bank.
Must-buy? Depends.
