Charity begins next week: Daan Utsav

You’d like to do some charity. You really would. But you don’t want to encourage begging, you have no time for volunteering. And that pile of woollens you’ve been meaning to donate since 2009 has been waiting because you’ve had no time.

Here’s a week-long reminder: October 2-8 is the Daan Utsav, the Joy of Giving Week – an opportunity to spread love, kindness and happiness among those who are less fortunate than us. Of course in an ideal world, you shouldn’t need a designated week for charity, but here it is anyway.

And there are no rules! You can visit an orphanage, teach in a school, make a donation, collaborate with an NGO for something bigger... Or, and this is our favourite idea: you can throw a party for the drivers, maids and watchmen in your neighbourhood.

Spread some joy, because you get only what you give.
