Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya said on Tuesday that he had appointed management consultancy firm Accenture to study the possibility of integrating the operations of Kingfisher and its low-cost arm, Air Deccan.
“We have appointed Accenture to advise on the integration of the two airlines. We will decide on the future course of action after a report from the consulting firm in the next six weeks,” Mallya said on the sidelines of the three-day Fortune Forum that started here on Tuesday.
Once integrated, Kingfisher Airline and Air Deccan will emerge as the largest domestic airline in the country with a fleet of 79 aircraft. They would also have a combined market share of nearly 35 per cent, getting past current market leader Jet Airways which has a fleet of 54 aircraft and a 31 per cent market share. Indian Airlines (now a part of Air India) has a market share of 21 per cent and 70 aircraft.
Earlier this year, Mallya's UB Group had acquired a 26 per cent stake in Deccan Aviation for Rs 550 crore. The group has now scaled up its stake to 46 per cent by buying shares in an open offer.
