This is only the second time a PPP is building a transmission project in western India, according to industry sources.
Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (formerly Reliance Energy Ltd) is the only company working on strengthening the western grid under the tariff-based bidding route.

The Siemens-Adani project, capable of transmitting 2500 MW, would provide transmission over a distance of about 1,000 km from the Mundra power plant in Gujarat to Haryana. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be commissioned in February, 2011 and the second phase in July, 2011.

Adani Power is developing power generating facilities aggregating to 6,600 MW in a phased manner at Mundra, Gujarat and Tiroda, Maharashtra.

The company has also laid a 413-km-long 400 KV Mundra – Dehgam dedicated transmission line for evacuation of power from the Mundra power station.
