French energy major's Indian subsidiary, Alstom T&D, is eyeing huge grid business from India that will substantially boost its existing revenues that have already grown three fold in the last five years. Alstom T&D currently contributes Rs 4,000 crore in revenues to the group's grid business.
Following the recent grid collapse in India that resulted in a major blackout, efforts are on to strengthen India's existing transmission networks that feed electricity to the grids. This is being done by switching to more efficient transmission links or the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) lines.
HVDC helps to transport bulk electricity to longer distances with less transmission losses and is generally used for transporting power for more than 800 km.

{{/usCountry}}After executing similar projects across the globe, Alstom T&D India is targeting a huge business coming out of these HVDC projects in India.
"India is the largest single market for Alstom's grid business," Grégoire Poux-Guillaume, executive vice-president, Alstom and president, Alstom grid sector, told HT.
"HVDC is going to see a growth in India," said Rathin Basu, country president and managing director, Alstom T&D.
