State-run heavy engineering equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has sought expressions of interest from technology providers for turbines and generators of 700 megawatts and above for nuclear power plants.
BHEL is scouting for an established and exclusive technology partner interested in transfer of technology required for building these super specialty turbines and generators.
The public sector company supplies smaller capacity (540 mw and 235 mw) generators and turbines to Nuclear Power Corporation of India for its nuclear power plants. Nearly 85 per cent of equipment on which NPCIL’s power plants are run, have been supplied by BHEL.
According to sources, technology providers that have evinced interest for a tie-up with BHEL have sought for more time to submit their expression of interest.
BHEL is also in the process of forming a joint venture with NPCIL for carrying out engineering, procurement and construction of conventional nuclear power plants, and the company that is selected for transfer of technology may get to partner the two state-owned companies.
