Fortis Healthcare, Asia’s largest private healthcare provider, is planning to increase its bed capacity by around 50 per cent in the current financial year.

Fortis Healthcare, Asia’s largest private healthcare provider, is planning to increase its bed capacity by around 50 per cent in the current financial year. The Healthcare major, which currently has a network of 68 hospitals and 3,400 beds, is aiming to add around 1,500 beds and six new hospitals by the end of March 2011.

“We are expecting to add around 1,500 beds and six hospital in our existing network by the end of the current financial year,” said Bhavdeep Singh, chief executive officer, Fortis Healthcare. The company’s ongoing hospital projects in New Delhi, Kolkata and Gurgaon are expected to be operational in the current fiscal.

The company is expecting a growth in the range of around 40 per cent in the current fiscal. “Healthcare industry is growing by 13 per cent per year and we expect to grow around three times of the industry growth,” added Singh.

Three key super specialty areas — cardiac sciences, orthopaedics and neuro sciences — are expected to be the major driver of growth for the company. The company will also invest in areas like robotics and a catheterisation laboratory.
