A service that lets users broadcast their location might sound creepy to the privacy-minded, but Foursquare’s location service has fired up Internet users’ imagination.

A service that lets users broadcast their location might sound creepy to the privacy-minded, but Foursquare’s location service has fired up Internet users’ imagination.

Foursquare’s 500,000 users see a list of bars, restaurants and other places, select their location and “check in,” alerting friends using the service.

This model gives people choice in revealing their locations, and is gathering speed in the Internet. Yelp recently added a check-in feature to its cellphone application, and Facebook is expected to introduce location features in coming months.
