Govt to give a fair deal for SEZs, says CM

CM Vilasrao Deshmukh said land acquisitions are essential for industrial growth and farmers whose lands have been taken, will be paid well.

Reaffirming his commitment for making Maharashtra the number one investment destination in the country chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday said that land acquisitions were necessary for industrial growth and the government would do its outmost to give a fair deal to farmers whose lands were being acquired.

"Land acquisition is important for fuelling industries growth. However we assure farmers that only barren land will be acquired and the farmers will be provided with the best market and rehabilitation prices by the state government," Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh said at the roll-out of Mahindra & Mahindra's Logan car from the assembly line at Nasik.

The CM also said that it was necessary decrease the emplyment burden from the agriculture sector. The agriculture sector provides employment to 60 per cent of the country's population however its contribution to its GDP is only 18.6 per cent.
"We will for all political and social figureheads to please support the government in acquiring land for economic development," the CM said.

The CM was present aaty the ceremonial roll out of the Logan car from the assembly line at Nasik. PWD minister Chaggan Bhujbal, Industries minister Ashok Chavan, Chief seceratry D K Sankaran, M&M's Ananad Mahindra and Renault president Carlos Ghosn were present for the event.
